Jasper

The jasper can come in many different colours and patterns and is known to be the 'nurturer' because it reminds us of our need to help others as well as ourselves. It is a 'Stone of Protection' which can be used to ward off negative energies- both physical and psychic, which makes it an excellent stone to carry when practicing astral travel. Native Americans believe that jasper brings rain. 
The word for Jasper in some Native American cultures meant rain-bringer. Jasper was thought to drive away evil spirits and protect against snake and spider bites. It is said to provide protection, and to have a calming effect, giving stability and security. Jasper is also said to balance one's physical, emotional and intellectual states. Jaspers are considered the Patron Stone to Counselors and Therapists. Natural healers consider jasper useful as an overall healing gemstone. Wearing jasper was believed to strengthen the stomach. Jasper was also believed to cure gynecological problems. Thought important for women during childbirth - holding a piece of Jasper in the hand during childbirth is said to help relieve pain and guard the mother and child.
